Diana Spencer was born in 1961 in Sandringham, Norfolk, and was the youngest daughter of Edward Spencer and Frances Burke Roch. Growing up in Sandringham, she was never particularly good at academic studies, but excelled in both swimming and diving. When Diana was 18 years old, she moved to London, where she began working at a Kindergarten as an assistant. At the time, Princes Charles was dating Diana’s older sister, Sarah, but Diana caught his eye at a shooting party at her home and they began dating in 1980.
Diana Spencer and Prince Charles married on 29th July 1981, watched by 600,000 people on the streets of London and millions worldwide on television (Lewis, 2015). She became Princess Diana of Wales. Although their dating and marriage was publicised as a whirlwind romance, the ‘cracks’ in their marriage appeared early, and Diana struggled with the stress of royal marriage. Consequently, the couple separated in 1992, and were officially divorced by 1997 (Lewis, 2015). After they were separated, Diana publicly dated a few other men, but soon focused wholly on her missionaries and charity expeditions.
